Miyazaki's Ghibli Museum Commercial

Here is a 2001 commercial for the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, Japan, animated personally by Hayao Miyazaki. There isn't much else to say, really. It's a very short commercial clip, showing a massively long Cat Bus that feels more like a caterpiller, various characters, and an army of bugs.

If you look carefully, you'll recognize the Radish Spirit from Spirited Away, riding away in the Cat Bus. It's a bit clever, since that character figures in a Totoro riff in Miyazaki's 2001 movie. Bonus points and a cookie to whoever can point it out.

This commercial appears on the Ghibli ga Ippai Special: Short Short DVD in Japan, which belongs in the movie library of all good Ghibli Freaks everywhere.

This might be a reach but ... is it when Sen and He are on the elevator and he is looking straight ahead and then he gives her that one look only with the eye moving? Similar to the scene at the bus stop in Totoro?

Ding-Ding-Ding!! You, sir, are correct! Good observation. That is one of the more notable "Ghibli Riffs" in Spirited Away. That shot of Sen and the Radish Spirit in the elevator, where he peers down with his eye, is a quote of the same shot from Totoro at the bus stop.
